FAQs

Please ensure your rider brings a working bicycle and a tightly fitting helmet.
No bike or helmet?  No problem—rentals are available during registration.
To make sure your bicycle fits our standards, we recommend doing an ABC Quick Check at home:

  • A – Air. Is there enough air in the tires? (Check sidewall for range, please avoid over-inflation.)
  • B – Brakes. Do both brakes engage properly and stop the bike smoothly?
  • C – Chain. Is the chain moving smoothly?
  • Quick Release: If the bike has quick-release levers, make sure they’re fully closed and secure.

We also suggest bringing water, sunscreen, and a snack.  Knee and elbow pads are optional if your rider prefers extra protection.  Instructors carry tools, first-aid kits, sunscreen, and extra water.

We’re committed to providing high-quality, personalized instruction that truly impacts our riders’ skill levels and sets them up for growth. That’s why we keep our group sizes small, with no more than 5 riders per instructor, ensuring every participant gets focused attention, support, and feedback.

No prior experience required! Our various programs cover all skill levels, from taking off training wheels in our Crank Cadets course to advanced gap jumps in Jump Junkies. Whether your rider is just learning to balance or ready to tackle technical trails, we’ve got something in the works.
While we’re currently focused on beginner trail and road riding camps, advanced programs (including Jump Junkies and other skill-based clinics) are in the works! Join our waitlist on the registration page to be notified of our launch.

Rain or shine, we’re ready to ride! Learning in varied conditions is a crucial step in developing safe, confident riders as trail surfaces and dynamics change. In the event of extreme weather (lightning, hail, etc.), we’ll reschedule or offer a refund.

We recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early on the first day of class to get settled and allow our instructors to conduct their bike and helmet safety checks.
All arrivals and pick-ups currently take place at Peñasquitos Creek Park in San Diego, directly across from the Los Peñasquitos Creek Park Kiosk. You can find directions to our staging area here.  We’re planning to expand locations soon, stay tuned!

We offer Before Care starting 45 minutes before camp begins, and After Care for up to 1 hour after camp ends. You’ll have the option to add either (or both) during the registration process.

Safety is our top priority. Every lesson follows a “safety-first” approach: teaching proper trail etiquette, safe riding habits, and basic bike maintenance. Our goal is to equip riders with the skills and confidence to ride safely—both during our programs and on their own. All of our instructors are CPR and First Aid certified, and we follow strict safety protocols throughout every session.

All participants must sign our safety and liability waiver to join any PacificMTB program. A digital waiver will be provided during online registration and some courses may require a physical signature on the first day. Our waivers include a photography release we use to highlight student progress, showcase skills our campers learn and promote our courses.  You may opt out by checking the box at registration. [View our waiver here].

Our youth clinics and day camps currently serve riders aged 3–14.  Age-specific details are provided with each program during registration. We plan to expand to more age groups and skill levels soon – stay tuned!

Here at PacificMTB, we are firm believers in preserving the beautiful natural spaces that we’re fortunate to ride in. We support the City of San Diego’s mission to protect our parks by integrating environmentally conscious habits and trail etiquette into our courses. Riders learn how to respect wildlife, minimize their impact, and become responsible stewards of the outdoors.

Please notify us as soon as possible if you need to cancel.  Cancellations made 10 days or more before the start date will receive a full refund.  Cancellations made less than 10 days before the start date will receive a 50% refund.  No refunds will be issued for cancellations on or after the start date.
